SilkFusion covers the critical need of functional platelets, independent from donations, for transfusions as well as for clinical and physiological studies. What is your role in this project?

CELLINK´s role is to provide cutting edge technology related to 3D Bioprinting including our Bio X bioprinter and expertise in biomaterials and bioinks.

We are working with the rest of the SilkFusion team to provide our knowledge and expertise related to 3D bioprinting and bioink formulations.

What is the importance of 3D printing in solving health problems, nowadays?

Three-dimensional cell cultures offer multiple advantages over 2D cell cultures, including the precise geometrical arrangement of multicellular constructs that can better recapitulate the native 3D human physiology.

Previous studies have shown that 3D cultures support more relevant cell-cell interactions and demonstrate differences in cell proliferation, morphology, oxygenation, drug and nutrient uptake, excretion and junction proteins when compared to 2D cultures.

Therefore, tissue models fabricated using 3D bioprinting results in more relevant in vitro models for mechanistic investigations of biological systems and for drug screening purposes.
